We have
an ongoing commitment to developing services to improve access to
therapy for black and minority ethnic women.
We
recognise that black and minority ethnic women are very under
represented within the professions of counselling and psychotherapy,
and that many women from these groups who would like to have
counselling or therapy may suffer the additional burdens of racism or
misdiagnosis when attempting to seek help from health professionals or
use health services.
We
understand that some women from these groups prefer to see a woman of
the same culture while others do not.
We aim
to develop and maintain a strong profile within Leeds black and
minority ethnic groups to determine the type of services that are
needed within our community and continue to build resources within our
own organisation to provide one to one and group counselling and
psychotherapy to black and minority ethnic women.
Our
aims include a continued contribution to the debate on mental health
and black and minority ethnic communities in Leeds.
